Radiation Update

Radiation Update
The coolest pre-anesthetized gal there is.

It's business as usual at Team Charlotte headquarters. Sleep, eat, port access, physical therapy, platelet transfusions, blood transfusions, eat, Lego, Mario Kart, Yahtzee, eat, sleep - it feels like Groundhog Day!

Charlotte completed her second batch of radiation last week and, just like our first go-round in December, she handled it well. We opted to do the simulation and all five sessions under anesthesia. Once we saw the mask that had to be worn in the machine, we felt validated in our decision! Charlotte had fun timing the delivery of the propofol with some quirky expression. She'd quote a movie, make a few funny sounds/faces, and then drift off to dreamland. She's our favorite weirdo!

Yes, this mask came home with us post-radiation.

Aside from fatigue, she didn't experience any side effects from additional radiation. No nausea, aches, pains, or irritation to her skin. We were told those effects would be minimal if they arose, but still nice to not have anything additional to deal with at home.

We peppered in some fun during our time at home. Connor & Charlotte attended a daddy daughter dance, Charlotte once again participated in her school's Battle of the Books (winners for 5th grade), and we surprised Charlotte with big news - a puppy will be joining our family in April! #YOLO

I'm not crying, you're crying.
Champion bookworm!
One of these little ladies will be the cutest Team Charlotte member!

We continue to have ups and downs emotionally - every day is a bit different. Things will seem relatively normal and then it's as if a switch gets flipped and I remember our reality. Don't get me wrong, I'd much rather be laughing than wallowing in our situation, but it's a weird state to be in.
