Round 15 - A Change of Plans

Round 15 - A Change of Plans
The best part of our stay - meeting Scarlett the Golden Retriever.

What began as a standard admission for methotrexate quickly turned into a nightmare.

There is no way to sugarcoat things. Charlotte's latest MRI showed growth in the left knee, along with another spot nearby. Dr. Brittany doesn't believe the chemo has been working the way they'd expect it to. She expects Charlotte's cancer is more aggressive, making a long term cure unlikely.

After our discharge, we went back to the hospital for updated CT and PET scans. Thankfully, the lungs are stable. However, the PET showed additional spots in her right fibula and left humerus. While Dr. Brittany let us know the spots are small (less than 1cm), they are there and that worries her.

Connor and I have a telehealth appointment with a radiation oncologist at UW in an hour, as the next step will include radiation to the left knee and pubic bone. We will evaluate later if radiation to the other bony sites makes sense. A new chemo regimen begins next week.

This is not the update we want to share. We have spent the last week in a fog, walking numbly through each day and trying (unsuccessfully) to keep the tears at bay. We're scared.

We are counting on Team Charlotte more than ever to lean into hope and belief that the new chemo and radiation will prove effective in controlling the cancer.
