Round 20/Round 5

Round 20/Round 5
Serving double duty - room decor & a conversation starter.

We brought the March Madness to Hotel SCH for our fifth round of I/E, Charlotte's 20th round of chemo overall. Damn. That's a whole lot of chemo our girl has endured.

Our admission was pretty standard and mostly positive. Charlotte enjoyed telling anyone with ears about our new four-legged friend, she got wild with some art projects, and she was able to join the school-wide Battle of the Books competition via Zoom. Spoiler alert: Charlotte and her friends are brilliant! They defended their title and will represent St. Luke later this week against other schools.

Charlotte? Or Wilson?
Enjoying her mess!

Four nights in the hospital is a lot. For Charlotte, of course, but also for Connor and I... aka our aging bodies. After all of these admissions, we have finally figured out taking shifts is pretty darn effective for us. We alternated nights in the hospital, each taking two at Hotel SCH & two at home. It allows one of us to get a night of decent sleep - what a difference that makes! Obviously we both want to be with Charlotte around the clock, but we also understand self-care is a huge component of taking care of her.

Late night walks around the unit.

We'll spend the next two weeks at home. We have appointments to check counts and I wouldn't be surprised if a platelet/blood transfusion is in our future. Assuming Charlotte's counts recover as they normally do, we have big plans for that third week off - a vacation. I can think of no better medicine!
