Surprise Week Off

Surprise Week Off
I solemnly swear I am up to no good

Last week was... normal. Or normal adjacent. Normal-ish? You get the picture! On Tuesday we learned Charlotte's platelets were too low to proceed with chemo. We were told something like this isn't surprising given where she's at in treatment. Her body is tired and it takes a bit longer for her to recover between rounds. We were given the option to re-check on Thursday for a Friday admission OR we could wait until this week. We opted for the latter! Before being set free from the hospital, we also received proof that Charlotte's bone is healing nicely around the implant in her right leg. Dr. Jesse gave her the go-ahead to start putting weight on it - 25% of her body weight. She has loved using only one crutch and even expresses some soreness after being active during the day. Steps in the right direction!

So what would we do with this extra time away from Hotel SCH? School! Charlotte went for partial days Wednesday through Friday. She even had the energy for Girl Scout activities throughout the weekend. She had been having fun with a new unit on colonization and was thrilled to be back to support her fellow settlers: Da Corgies. They set sail and successfully made it to land without incident! Her proudest moment of the week, however, came when she qualified for the all-school spelling bee for the 2nd year in a row! This brought Connor and I some much needed validation that, although she has been absent most of the school year, she is still one smart cookie.

These routine activities, coupled with sunshine & a Seahawks victory, made for an amazing bonus week at home. We will be back in residence at Hotel SCH tomorrow for one more round of chemo before updated scans next Monday. I would be lying if I said I wasn't nervous about next week. Our team has told us they don't expect to see anything different, but that feels like something we've heard before only to have the rug pulled from under us. Charlotte remains in great spirits and proves time & again that she is one fierce competitor!
